LOS ANGELES--June 8, 2001--With its exclusive Eyewitness News Poll conducted by SurveyUSA, ABC7 Eyewitness News was the most accurate in projecting the outcome of the runoff election for Los Angeles Mayor.

In a poll of 1000 likely voters released the day before the election, ABC7 and SurveyUSA projected City Attorney James Hahn to defeat former State Assembly Speaker Antonio Villaraigosa by a margin of 53% to 43%.The actual June 5 totals were 54% to 46%.

ABC7 Eyewitness News and SurveyUSA began tracking the runoff election in April, capturing the high-stakes battle in seven separate surveys. This tracking poll showed a swell of support for Antonio Villaraigosa in mid-May and documented Hahnís successful effort to rebound using an advertising blitz in the last two weeks of the campaign.
