Republican Wilson Faces Tough Challenge in NM1: In an election in New Mexico's 1st Congressional District today, 9/21/06, incumbent Republican Heather Wilson edges Democratic challenger Patricia Madrid, 51% to 46%, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted exclusively for KOB-TV Albuquerque. 89% of Republicans vote for Wilson. 79% of Democrats vote for Madrid. 18% of Democrats cross over to vote for the Republican Wilson. Wilson leads among Independents by 4 points. Wilson gets 83% of the Conservative vote. Madrid gets 83% of the Liberal vote. Moderates are evenly divided. Whites prefer Wilson by 28 points. Hispanics, who make up 34% of the likely voters in SurveyUSA's turnout model, prefer Madrid by 29 points. Wilson has represented New Mexico's 1st district since June 1998.

Filtering: 900 adults from New Mexico's 1st Congressional District were interviewed 9/18/06 - 9/20/06. Of them, 778 were registered to vote. Of them, 503 were judged to be "likely" voters. Crosstabs reflect Likely Voters.
