Fletcher Inches Towards Beshear in KY Governor's Race ... But With 27 Days Left, Is A Come-From-Behind Possible? In an Election for Governor of Kentucky today, 10/09/07, 27 days to the vote, Democratic challenger Steve Beshear continues to lead incumbent Republican Ernie Fletcher in the race for Governor of Kentucky -- a statehouse takeaway -- though the Democrat's margin is slightly smaller than in 4 previous SurveyUSA tracking polls. Today, it's Beshear 56%, Fletcher 40%, in research conducted exclusively for WHAS-TV Louisville and WCPO-TV Cincinnati. Fletcher trailed by 28 points in May, trailed by 23 points in July, trailed by 21 points in August, trailed by 19 points in September, and trails by 16 points today. The gap is closing, but is it closing fast enough? What little momentum Fletcher has is among male voters. He's at 44% today, the highest in 5 polls. Beshear is at 53% today, the lowest in 5 polls. Beshear's lead among men is single digits, for the first time in 5 polls. Most of the other demographic groups show either no movement or no consistent trend in what movement there is.

Kentucky Divided on Constitutional Amendment on Limited Casinos: 46% of likely voters in the Governor's contest say they would vote to Amend Kentucky's constitution to permit limited casino gambling. 51% of likely voters say they would vote to leave Kentucky's constitution alone. An overwhelming majority are in favor of putting the issue of casinos before voters, as opposed to having the issue decided by the legislature.

Filtering: 1,000 Kentucky adults were interviewed by SurveyUSA 10/08/07 and 10/09/07. Of them, 878 were registered to vote. Of them, 571 were determined by SurveyUSA to be likely to vote in the 11/06/07 election, and were included in this survey.
