Angelides With Slight Edge, 4 Days to Primary in Democratic Free-For-All: In a Democratic Primary for California Governor today, 6/2/06, Phil Angelides leads Steve Westly by 4 points, but an unusually high 21% of likely voters remain undecided, and therefore any outcome is possible, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted for KABC-TV Los Angeles, KPIX-TV San Francisco, KXTV-TV Sacramento and KGTV-TV San Diego. 4 days to the 6/6/06 Primary, it's Angelides 41%, Westly 37%. Compared to a SurveyUSA poll released 8 days ago, Angelides has lost 3 points, Westly has gained 5 points. Angelides was up by 18 among Male voters, now up by 4. Angelides had led by 9 among voters age 35 to 49, now trails by 5. However, among voters age 65+, Angelides had led by 2, now leads by 9. Among Moderates, Angelides had led by 7, now trails by 1. Among voters who earn between $40K and $80K a year, Angelides had led by 14, now trails by 1. In the Central Valley, which includes Sacramento and Fresno, Angelides had led by 3, now trails by 13.

Filtering: 2,400 California adults were interviewed 5/30/06 - 6/1/06. Of them, 1,962 were registered voters. Of them, 540 were judged to be likely Democratic Primary voters. Crosstabs reflect likely Democratic Primary voters.

Competing Polls in CA Democratic Primary: Four California-based research companies are also polling on the Democratic Primary. In order of most recently released data: A Field Poll released today, 6/2/06, of 501 likely voters, has Westly up by 1 point over Angelides, with 26 percent undecided. A Los Angeles Times Poll of 424 likely voters, released 5/26/06, has Angelides up by 3 over Westly, with 28% undecided. A poll by the Public Policy Institute of California of 435 likely voters, released 5/25/06, has Angelides up by 3 points over Westly, with 33% choosing other or undecided. A poll by Datamar, Inc. of 542 high-propensity registered voters, released 5/18/06, has Angelides up by 4 points over Westly, with 19% "don't know".
