"John Wayne Dude" Gets Highest Marks, FEMA Boss Lowest: SurveyUSA asked 1,200 Americans nationwide on behalf of its media clients to rate on a 1-to-10 scale the job done by all of the key players in the Hurricane Katrina story. Here are the rankings from highest to lowest. U.S. Army General Russell Honore = 6.8. Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour = 6.4. New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin = 5.7. Louisiana Governor Kathleen Blanco 5.2. President George W. Bush 4.7. Director of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff 4.4. FEMA Director Michael Brown = 4.3.

Pollster Caveat: Interviews for this poll were conducted on 9/6/05, in the middle of volatile and rapidly changing events. One levee was plugged and water began flowing out of New Orleans but before the death count is known. Opinion can and should be expected to change as events unfold. When U.S. Army Lt. General Russell Honore first landed in New Orleans on 9/1, Mayor Ray Nagin called him a "John Wayne Dude..." The term John Wayne Dude was not used in the questionnaire.
