Corker Poised To Grab TN GOP Senate Nomination: In a Republican Primary for US Senator for Tennessee today, 8/2/06, on election eve, Bob Corker defeats Van Hilleary and Ed Bryant, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted exclusively for WBIR-TV Knoxville. Corker gets 45% today, down 4 from an identical poll released 7/24/06. Ed Bryant gets 31%, up 2 points. Bryant had trailed Corker by 20 points 9 days ago, now trails by 14. Van Hilleary gets 20%, up 5 points. Tate Harrison gets 1%, down 2 points. 3% are undecided. Corker's lead among female voters has declined from 22 points to 11 points since 7/24/06. Corker leads by 28 points in East TN, leads by 11 points in Middle TN, and trails by 6 points in Western TN. 9 days ago, Corker led by 7 points in Western TN, a 13-point swing. The Senate seat is "open." Incumbent Republican Senator Bill Frist is not running for re-election. The Primary is tomorrow, 8/3/06. The winner is expected to face Democrat Harold Ford, Jr., in November. Tennessee has not had a Democratic U.S. Senator since 1994.

Filtering: 2,400 Tennessee adults were interviewed 7/30/06 - 8/1/06. Of them, 2,066 were Registered Voters. Of them, 1,191 were judged to be "Likely Voters". Of them, 565 selected a Republican ballot. Crosstabs reflect Likely Republican Primary Voters.
