In Louisiana Senate Race, GOP Challenger Kennedy Hot On Heels Of Incumbent Landrieu: In an election for U.S. Senator from Louisiana today, 12/13/07, Incumbent Democrat Mary Landrieu is locked in an intriguing battle with former Democrat turned Republican John Kennedy. Landrieu gets 46% today, Kennedy gets 42%, within the survey's 3.9% margin of sampling error, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted exclusively for Roll Call, the newspaper of Capitol Hill. Kennedy leads by 12 among men; Landrieu leads by 19 among women; a 31-point Gender Gap. Kennedy leads by 22 among whites. Landrieu leads by 60 among blacks. Kennedy holds 76% of the GOP base. Landrieu holds 73% of the Democrat base. Independents break 4:3 for the GOP. Mary Landrieu's brother, Mitch, was elected Lieutenant Governor on 10/20/07. 67% of those who voted for Mitch Landrieu in October vote for Mary Landrieu for today. 23% crossover and vote for Kennedy. Of those who voted for Republican Bobby Jindal in the 10/20/07 Louisiana Governor election, 61% vote Republican for Senate, 30% cross-over and vote Democrat.

Favorability: Mary Landrieu is viewed favorably by 40% of LA voters, unfavorably by 32%, for a Plus 8 Net Favorability. John Kennedy is viewed favorably by 35% of LA voters, unfavorably by 10%, for a Plus 25 Net Favorability. 56% in LA today have no impression of Kennedy, or have not heard of him.

Louisiana View of Congress: Democrat Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has a Minus 15 Net Favorability. Democrat Majority Leader Harry Reid has a Minus 13 Net Favorability. Republican Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has a Plus 1 Net Favorability. Republican Minority Leader John Boehner has a Net Zero Favorability. Louisiana Republicans want Congress to focus on Immigration ahead of all other issues. Louisiana Democrats want Congress to focus on Health Care ahead of all other issues. President Bush has a 32% job approval in the state. Congress has a 21% job approval.

Filtering: 750 Louisiana adults were interviewed by SurveyUSA 12/06/07 through 12/10/07. Of them, 651 were registered to vote and were included in this survey.
