Race for Second Place in Washington State Supreme Court Position 2: In a non-partisan primary today, 8/15/06, for Washington State Supreme Court Justice Position 2, incumbent Susan Owens easily defeats four challengers but fails to get a majority, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted exclusively for KING-TV Seattle. Owens gets 28% of the vote. Her four challengers each get between 9% and 11% of the vote, a statistical tie for second place. 30% of voters likely to vote in this race remain undecided. The last date to vote in the Washington primary is 9/19/06. If no one gets more than 50% of the vote, the top two finishers advance to the general election on 11/7/06. |
Washington State Supreme Court Position 8: In a non-partisan primary today, 8/15/06, for Washington State Supreme Court Justice Position 8, incumbent Gerry L. Alexander faces a tough challenge from John Groen, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted exclusively for KING-TV Seattle. Alexander gets 36% of the vote. Groen gets 32%. With a 6 percentage point margin of sampling error, and low voter interest, Alexander's advantage is not statistically significant. With 32% of likely voters undecided, court seat is up for grabs. The primary winner will be the only name on the ballot in the general election on 11/7/06 and is practically assured of winning the general election. |
Washington State Supreme Court Position 9: In a non-partisan primary today, 8/15/06, for Washington State Supreme Court Justice Position 9, incumbent Tom Chambers appears to have a slight edge over challenger Jeanette Burrage, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted exclusively for KING-TV Seattle. Chambers gets 41% of the vote. Burrage gets 32%. 27% of voters likely to vote in this race remain undecided, so Burrage can still win if more than two-thirds of the undecided voters break in her direction. The primary winner will be the only name on the ballot in the general election on 11/7/06 and is practically assured of winning the general election. |
Filtering: 2,100 Washington adults were interviewed 8/11/06 - 8/13/06. Of them, 1,709 were registered to vote. Of them 279 were judged to be "likely voters" for State Supreme Court Judge races. Crosstabs reflect Likely Voters. |
Pollster Caveat: Interest in these races is extremely low and sample sizes are concomitantly low. Undecided voters are also unusually high. The higher-than-usual margin of sampling error reflects this, and these results should be interpreted with those facts in mind. |
