Analysis: In a Primary for Ohio Governor today, 4/25/06, Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell defeats Jim Petro for the Republican nomination, while Congressman Ted Strickland overwhelms Bryan Flannery on the Democratic side, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted for WKYC-TV Cleveland, WCPO-TV Cincinnati, and WYTV-TV Youngstown. Today, 1 week to the 5/2/06 Primary, Blackwell gets 46%, unchanged from a SurveyUSA poll 3 weeks ago. Petro gets 34%, up 2 points. 20% are still undecided, indicating that there could be significant movement in the relative strength of Blackwell and Petro. Petro needs to win 4 out of 5 undecided voters to surpass Blackwell. Blackwell leads 2:1 among conservatives. Liberals and moderates prefer Petro. Strickland beats Flannery 61% to 18%. 21% are undecided, not enough to threaten Strickland's lead. In the last 3 weeks, Strickland has gained 1 point and Flannery has gained 3 points. |
