Kulongoski Wins, Saxton Leads: 1 day to the 5/16/06 deadline for Oregon voters to mail in their Primary ballots for Governor, Democratic incumbent Ted Kulongoski and Republican challenger Ron Saxton appear headed for a General Election matchup on 11/7/06, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted exclusively for KATU-TV Portland. In the Democratic Primary, Kulongoski gets 48% of the vote, to 27% for Jim Hill and 17% for Pete Sorenson. 9% are undecided. Since an identical SurveyUSA KATU-TV poll 6 days ago, Kulongoski has lost 1 point and Hill has gained 2 points. In the Republican Primary, Saxton leads with 36%. Jason Atkinson gets 26% . Kevin Mannix gets 24%. 11% of Republicans would vote for one of the other five candidates. 4% are undecided. In the last week, Saxton has lost 4 points, Atkinson has gained 8 points, and Mannix has lost 3 points. Saxton had led Mannix by 13 points and Atkinson by 22 points. He now leads Atkinson by 10 points and Mannix by 12 points. If only those who have already voted are counted, Kulongoski's lead rises from 21 to 23 points, and Saxton's lead drops from 10 points to 9 points.

Filtering: 2,000 Oregon adults were interviewed 5/12/06 - 5/14/06. Of them, 1,710 were registered voters. Of them, 492 were judged to be Likely Democratic Primary Voters. 422 were judged to be Likely Republican Primary Voters. Crosstabs reflect Likely Voters.
