Democrats Take Colorado Statehouse: Democrat Bill Ritter is elected Governor of Colorado, defeating Republican Bob Beauprez, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted exclusively for KUSA-TV Denver. In SurveyUSA's last 3 polls, Ritter has led by 17 points, 18 points and today 22 points. Incumbent Republican Governor Bill Owens is term-limited. Should Ritter win, the State House will switch from Republican to Democrat. Beauprez currently represents Colorado's 7th Congressional District in the U.S. House. The election is in 5 days, on 11/7/06.

Opposition to Amendment 42 Surges; Outcome Uncertain: Amendment 42, on the minimum wage, may hold on and pass, but opposition to the measure is growing. Among likely voters, 44% today are Certain to vote "Yes," 36% are Certain to vote "No." But: 6 weeks ago, the measure led by 29 points. Two weeks ago it lead by 16 points. Today it leads by 8 points. Opposition has gone from 14% to 26% to 36%. Support is flat. Almost all of the voters who had been Not Certain how they would vote are choosing to vote No. Should this continue, with 20% of Likely Voters Not Certain how they will vote, 5 days to the Election, the measure could be defeated.

Amendment 43 Remains Deadlocked; Every Vote Critical: Of all Colorado ballot measures, Amendment 43, about marriage, is the most fiercely fought. 6 weeks ago, the measure was tied, 25% Certain to vote "Yes," 25% Certain to vote "No," and 50% Not Certain. Today, the measure remains tied: 40% Certain to vote "Yes," 41% Certain to vote "No," and now 19% Not Certain how they will vote. Republicans favor. Democrats oppose. Independents split, but among Independents, opposition is growing faster than support. Males split. Females split. Whites split. Both sides will need every vote in order to carry this measure.

Opposition to Amendment 44 Grows: Amendment 44, on marijuana, is losing support among Colorado likely voters. 2 weeks ago Amendment 44 trailed by 7 points; today it trails by 15 points. Support is flat at 36%. Opposition is up from 43% to 51%. Almost all of those who were Not Certain how they would vote 2 weeks ago are choosing to oppose Amendment 44.

Half Still Don't Know about Referendum K, Other Half Split Evenly: 5 days to the Election, 48% of Likely Voters are Not Certain how they will vote on Referendum K, about immigration. Of those who are Certain, 26% are certain to vote "Yes," 26% are Certain to vote "No." Republicans support the measure. Democrats oppose.

Filtering: 1,000 Colorado adults were interviewed 10/30/06 through 11/1/06. Of them, 861 were registered to vote. Of them, 661 were judged to be "likely" voters. Crosstabs reflect Likely Voters.
