Every Vote Vital in King County Prosecuting Attorney Election: In a special election for King County WA Prosecuting Attorney today, 10/17/07, the day In Person Early Voting begins and 20 days until it ends, Democrat Bill Sherman holds the slightest lead, 49% to 43%, over Republican Dan Satterberg, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted exclusively for KING-TV, the Belo-owned TV station in Seattle. Satterberg gets 91% of the Republican vote. Sherman gets 79% of the Democrat vote. Independents break 5:4 for the Republican. Sherman leads because Democrats outnumber Republicans. Among Moderates, Satterberg and Sherman tie. Satterberg leads 10:1 among Conservatives. Sherman leads 7:1 among Liberals. Satterberg leads 5:4 among gun owners. Sherman leads by 26 points among those who have been the victim of a violent crime. Satterberg leads by 13 points among those who say they are "more safe" than 5 years ago. Sherman leads by 11 points among those who say they are "less safe" today. Satterberg leads among men. Sherman leads among women. There is a 34-point Gender Gap. The more men who vote, and the more seniors who vote, the tighter the contest will be.

Filtering: 1,000 King County adults were interviewed 10/14/07 through 10/16/07. Of them, 892 were registered to vote. Of them, 520 were identified by SurveyUSA as likely to vote during the voting period that ends 11/06/07. King County Prosecuting Attorney Norm Maleng, a Republican, died in May 2007, after 28 years in the job. Satterberg has functioned as Interim Prosecutor since then. The special election is to serve the remainder of Maleng's term.
