Salazar Increases Lead Over Tipton, Holds CO3 For Democrats: In an election for the U.S. House of Representatives today, 10/30/06, in Colorado's 3rd Congressional District, incumbent Democrat John Salazar defeats Republican challenger Scott Tipton 57% to 38%, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted exclusively for KUSA-TV Denver. In a SurveyUSA poll released six weeks ago, 9/18/06, Salazar led by 11 points. Today he is up by 19 points. 92% of Democrats support Salazar. 71% of Republicans support Tipton. 24% of Republicans cross over to vote for the Democrat Salazar. 2 out of 3 Independents vote for Salazar. Although Republicans outnumber Democrats in CO 3, cross-overs and Independents ensure easy re-election for Salazar. Salazar was first elected to Congress in 2004. His brother Ken Salazar is a Democratic U.S. Senator for Colorado.

Filtering: 1,000 adults from Colorado's 3rd Congressional District were interviewed 10/27/2006 through 10/29/2006. Of them, 837 were registered to vote. Of them, 611 were judged to be "likely" voters. Crosstabs reflect Likely Voters.
