8 Days to GOP Primary, 3 Candidates Tightly Bunched in Maine: In a Republican Primary in Maine today, 6/5/06, 3 candidates for Governor are positioned for a photo-finish, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted exclusively for WCSH-TV Portland. With 8 days to go until the 6/13/06 Primary, it's David Emery 31%, Chandler Woodcock 29%, Peter Mills 27%, all 3 within the poll's margin of sampling error. The winner will be determined by the 12% of likely voters who are undecided. Emery gets 40% of the vote in Southern Maine but only 23% of the vote in Northern Maine. Among voters age 18 to 34, Woodcock gets triple the voters of either opponent. If younger voters turn out in larger numbers than here forecast, advantage Woodcock. The older the voter, the more likely Emery is preferred. The winner of the Primary will challenge incumbent Democratic Governor John Baldacci in November.

Filtering: 2,500 Maine adults were interviewed 6/2/06 - 6/4/06. Of them, 2,247 were registered to vote. Of them, 1,386 were registered Republicans or Independents. Of them, 408 were judged to be Likely Republican Primary Voters. Crosstabs reflect Likely Republican Primary Voters.
