Corker Increases Lead in TN Senate Primary: In a Republican primary for US Senator for Tennessee held today, 7/24/06, Bob Corker defeats Van Hilleary and Ed Bryant, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted exclusively for WBIR-TV Knoxville. Corker gets 49% today, up 11 points from an identical poll 5/23/06. Ed Bryant gets 29%, up 6 points. Van Hilleary gets 15%, down 13 points. Tate Harrison gets 3%, up 1 point. 4% are undecided. Corker leads by 35 points in East TN, leads by single digits in the rest of the state. The Senate seat is "open": incumbent Republican Senator Bill Frist is not running for re-election. The Primary is on Thursday, 8/3/06. The winner is expected to face Democrat Harold Ford, Jr., in November. Tennessee has not had a Democratic U.S. Senator since 1994.

Filtering: 2,500 Tennessee adults were interviewed 7/21/06 - 7/23/06. Of them, 2,140 were Registered Voters. Of them, 1,195 were judged to be "Likely Voters". Of them, 554 selected a Republican ballot. Crosstabs reflect Likely Republican Primary Voters.
