Analysis: In Primaries for Alabama Governor today, 5/2/06, Democratic former Governor Don Siegelman edges Lucy Baxley, while Republican incumbent Bob Riley overwhelms Roy Moore, according to an exclusive SurveyUSA poll conducted for WKRG-TV Mobile. With 5 weeks to the 6/6/06 Primary, Siegelman gets 47% to 39% for Baxley. 9% would vote for some other candidate. 5% are undecided. Siegelman leads among younger voters and African-Americans. Baxley leads among older voters and Whites. If no candidate gets a majority, the top 2 advance to a runoff 7/18/06. On the Republican side, Riley defeats Moore 66% to 30%. Riley beats Moore 4:1 among voters over age 65, but only wins by 3:2 among voters under 35. Riley wins by 55 points in Southern Alabama and by 24 points in Northern Alabama. |
Filtering: 2,000 Alabama adults were interviewed 4/29/06-5/1/06. Of them, 1,727 were registered voters. Of them, 423 were judged to be Likely Democratic Primary Voters. 483 were judged to be Likely Republican Primary Voters. Crosstabs reflect Likely Voters. |
