In Virginia, New High For McDonnell, Comfortable Leads for Other Republicans in VA Statewide Contests: Two weeks until votes are counted in the election for Virginia Governor, Republican Bob McDonnell continues to dominate Democrat Creigh Deeds, according to a SurveyUSA poll for WJLA-TV Washington DC and WDBJ-TV Roanoke.
Compared to an identical SurveyUSA poll released two weeks ago, McDonnell is up 5 points; Deeds is down 3. Today, it's McDonnell 59%, Deeds 40%. McDonnell leads among both men and women, young and old, rich and poor, educated and less-educated, and in all regions of the state.
In the contest for Lieutenant Governor, Incumbent Republican Bill Bolling is today elected to a second term, defeating Democrat Jody Wagner, former Treasurer of VA and VA Secretary of Finance, 56% to 42%. Bolling has led by at least 10 points in all 5 SurveyUSA tracking polls. Wagner has never polled above 42%, which is what she has today. In the contest for Attorney General of Virginia, Republican state senator Ken Cuccinelli today defeats Democrat state representative Steve Shannon 56% to 41%. Compared to two weeks ago, Cuccinelli is up 3 points; Shannon is down 2. Shannon is narrowly ahead in Southeastern VA; Cuccinelli leads by double digits in the rest of the state. |
Filtering: 900 adults from the commonwealth of Virginia were interviewed by SurveyUSA 10/17/09 through 10/19/09. Of them, 814 were registered to vote. Of them, 595 were determined by SurveyUSA to be likely to vote in the November general election. Incumbent Democratic Governor Tim Kaine is term limited; his seat is open. Incumbent Republican Attorney General Bill Mims was appointed to the seat by the Virginia General Assembly in February 2009, when Bob McDonnell resigned to campaign full-time for Governor, and is not seeking election to the office. |
