Democrat Udall Has Slight Edge Over Republican Schaeffer:
In an election for United States Senate in Colorado today, 11/5/07, one year to the vote, Democrat Mark Udall defeats Republican Bob Schaeffer -- but just barely -- in the battle to replace retiring Republican Wayne Allard, according to this SurveyUSA poll conducted exclusively for Roll Call, the newspaper of Capitol Hill.
Udall gets 48% today, Schaeffer 41%. Schaeffer holds 80% of the Republican base. Udall holds 87% of the Democrat base. Independents break 5:3 Democrat. White voters split. Udall leads among Minorities. Male voters split. Udall leads among females.

Udall is Better Known and Better Liked:
Democrat Udall is viewed favorably by 30% of Colorado voters, viewed unfavorably by 19%. His Net Favorability is Plus 11. Schaeffer is viewed favorably by 12%, viewed unfavorably by 15%. His Net Favorability is Minus 3. 48% are unfamiliar with Schaeffer. 29% are unfamiliar with Udall.
By comparison, in Colorado: Nancy Pelosi is at Minus 10; Harry Reid is at Minus 15; Mitch McConnell is at Minus 11 and John Boehner is at Minus 9. President Bush's Job Approval is 32% in Colorado. 20% in Colorado approve of the job Congress is doing.

Congress Should Focus on Iraq Ahead of All Other Issues, Immigration Next:
Asked which one of eight issues Congress should focus on ahead of all others, 21% pick Iraq, 18% pick Immigration. Among voters who pick Iraq, Udall leads by 49 points. Among voters who pick immigration, Schaeffer leads 8:1.
