MA Democrats Pick Patrick To Face Healey for Governor: On the eve of tomorrow's 9/19/06 Democratic Primary for Governor of Massachusetts, Deval Patrick defeats Chris Gabrieli and Tom Reilly to win his party's nomination, according to this 8th and final SurveyUSA pre-election tracking poll conducted exclusively for WBZ-TV Boston. Patrick gets 46%, up 1 point from an identical SurveyUSA WBZ-TV poll released 9/12/06. Gabrieli gets 29%, unchanged in the past week. Reilly gets 22%, up 1 point. Patrick has led in the last 6 polls, but his support has increased sharply over the past 4 weeks. In 4 polls taken between 6/19/06 and 8/22/06 Patrick's vote stayed in the mid-30's, but it has jumped to the mid-40's in the 2 polls since then. Patrick runs strongest among the most liberal, educated, and affluent voters, and among middle-aged voters. Gabrieli leads among conservatives and voters who have not attended college. Gabrieli also runs strongly among younger voters, male voters, and independents. Reilly does not win any group, but runs strongest among seniors and those with household income under $40K. The winner of tomorrow's Primary will face Republican Lieutenant Governor Kerry Healey in November. Incumbent Republican Governor Mitt Romney is not running for re-election. |
