Analysis: In an election today, 9/21/05, 7 weeks to the 11/8/05 vote, state of Washington voters narrowly approve Initiative 912, decisively approve Initiative 901, and split on Initiative 900, according to a SurveyUSA poll of 644 likely state of Washington voters, conducted exclusively for KING-TV. Initiative 912, repealing recently enacted fuel tax increases, passes 52% to 41% today. Initiative 901, banning smoking in public vehicles and buildings and places of employment, passes 2:1 today. Initiative 900, directing the state auditor to conduct performance audits of state and local governments, is effectively tied today: 48% "No" and 45% "Yes". Republicans and Independents favor Initiative 912, Democrats oppose it. Initiative 901 gets 60% or higher support from all groups. Males and Females vote differently on 900. Democrats and Republicans vote differently on 900. Interest in ballot measures intensifies as the election approaches and ad dollars are spent to influence voters.
