Analysis: In a hypothetical election for Governor of Arkansas today, 12/6/05, Democrat Mike Beebe edges Republican Asa Hutchinson, but in a hypothetical election between Republican Hutchinson and Democrat Bill Halter, Hutchinson wins decisively, according to a SurveyUSA poll of 684 Registered state of Arkansas voters conducted exclusively for KTHV-TV. The election is in November 2006. The Governor's seat is open. Today, 11 months out, in a Beebe-Hutchinson matchup, Beebe gets 49%, Hutchinson 44%. Beebe carries 83% of Arkansas Democrats. Hutchinson carries 85% of Arkansas Republicans. Independents split. In a Hutchinson-Halter matchup, Hutchinson gets 56%, Halter 34%. In this matchup, Hutchinson carries 92% of Arkansas Republicans. Halter gets only 60% of Arkansas Democrats. 27% of Democrats cross over and vote for Hutchinson. Independents prefer Hutchinson to Halter by 2:1. Incumbent Republican Mike Huckabee is term limited.

Filtering: 800 Arkansas adults were interviewed 12/3/05 - 12/5/05. Of them, 684 were registered voters. Crosstabs reflect registered voters.
