Brown-Waite Holds FL5 For GOP: In an election for US House of Representatives in Florida's 5th Congressional District today, 10/30/06, incumbent Republican Congresswoman Ginny Brown-Waite defeats Democrat challenger John Russell, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted exclusively for WFLA-TV Tampa. Today it's Brown-Waite 55%, Russell 41%. Contest has shown virtually no movement in 10 weeks. In 3 SurveyUSA polls since September, Brown-Wait has not been above 56% and not been below 55%. In 3 SurveyUSA polls since September, Russell has not been above 42%, not been below 40%. Voters under 35 support Russell 49% to 45%. Voter age 35+ favor Brown-Waite. 83% of Republicans vote Republican. 76% of Democrats vote Democrat. 23% of Democrats cross over. 87% of those who approve of President George W. Bush's job performance support Brown-Waite. 70% of those who disapprove of Bush's job performance support Russell. President Bush's job approval among Likely Voters in Florida's 5th Congressional District is 46%.

Filtering: 700 registered voters from Florida's 5th Congressional District, chosen using Registration Based Sample from Aristotle International, were interviewed 10/27/06 through 10/29/06. Of them, 495 were judged to be "likely" voters. Crosstabs reflect Likely Voters.
