Democratic Primary for Governor of Indiana is Tied, 5 Weeks to the Vote: In a Democratic Primary for Governor of Indiana today, 04/01/08, 5 weeks to the vote, Indianapolis architect Jim Schellinger and Former Congresswoman and Undersecretary of Agriculture Jill Long Thompson are effectively tied, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted exclusively for WHAS-TV Louisville KY and WCPO-TV Cincinnati OH. Schellinger gets 41% today, Long Thompson gets 39%, within the survey's 4.3 percent margin of sampling error. Schellinger leads by 21 among men. Long Thompson leads by 13 among women -- a 34-point Gender Gap. Long Thompson leads by 21 points in Northern Indiana. Schellinger leads by 22 in Southern Indiana, by 13 in Central Indiana and by 9 in greater Indianapolis. The race is closely contested, and neither candidate far ahead, among young and old; black and white; Republican, Independent and Democrat; Conservative, Moderate and Liberal. Schellinger has a slight advantage among those who attend church regularly and those who are Pro-Life. 1 in 5 voters are undecided. The contest could go either way. The winner will face incumbent Republican Governor Mitch Daniels, who was elected to his first term with 53% of the vote in 2004.

Filtering: 1,650 state of Indiana adults were interviewed 03/29/08 through 03/31/08. Of them, 1,435 were registered to vote. Of them, 530 were determined by SurveyUSA to be likely to vote on or before the 05/06/08 Democratic Primary.
