Incumbent Republican Fletcher Making Few Inroads Against Democratic Challenger Beshear in KY Governor Election:
In SurveyUSA's latest tracking poll in the Kentucky Governor's race, the Democratic ticket of Steve Beshear and Don Mongiardo continues to be well positioned to capture the Kentucky Governor's statehouse from the incumbent Republican ticket of Ernie Fletcher and Robbie Rudolph. Beshear leads 58% to 39% today, in a poll conducted exclusively for WHAS-TV Louisville and WCPO-TV Cincinnati. Time is running out for Fletcher, who trailed by 28 points in a SurveyUSA poll in May, trailed by 23 points in a SurveyUSA poll in July, trailed by 21 points in a SurveyUSA poll in August and trails by 19 points today. The election is in 8 weeks.
Fletcher continues to trail in every region of the state, so a heavy turnout from one particular region will not get him re-elected. He trails by 17 points in Western KY, trails by 34 points in greater Louisville, trails by 12 points in North Central KY, and trails by 11 points in Eastern KY. Fletcher does tie Beshear among voters age 65+, 49% for each, but Fletcher trails in all other age groups. 28% of KY Republicans cross-over and vote Democrat in this contest. Republican defection has ranged from 36% of likely voters in May, to 24% in July, to 29% in August. Independents continue to break 2:1 for Beshear.
