TN Women, Middle TN Break Late Against Ford, Electing GOP Corker Senator: In an election for U.S. Senator from Tennessee, Republican Bob Corker rides a late surge and defeats Democrat Harold Ford Jr., according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted for WBIR-TV in Knoxville. In two October tracking polls, SurveyUSA had the contest tied. But in the campaign's final weeks, just enough female voters appear to be abandoning the Democrat to shift the race. Ford had led among women by 10 points on 10/1, by 10 points on 10/25, but today, Election Eve, leads among females by 1. Without women, Ford cannot overcome Corker's consistent 12-point lead among men. Middle TN flipped in the final week. Ford had led in Middle TN throughout the campaign, but now trails by 6 on Election Eve. Eastern TN remains, as it has been, solidly Corker. Corker's support among white voters has risen steadily, from 49% in September to 57% today. Ford's support among white voters has fallen steadily, from 44% in September to 41% today. The Senate seat is open. Republican Senator Bill Frist is retiring.

Bredesen Re-Elected Governor of TN: Incumbent Democrat Phil Bredesen defeats Republican challenger Jim Bryson, according to SurveyUSA's final pre-election tracking poll. Bredesen ends at 62%, Bryson ends at 34%. There has been no movement in the contest in 3 months.
