SC GOP PRIMARY -- Huckabee 10 Points Atop Romney; Giuliani, Was 1st, Now 5th:
In a GOP Primary in South Carolina today, 12/20/07, one month to the vote, Mike Huckabee remains in 1st place, 10 points atop 2nd place Mitt Romney, according to a SurveyUSA tracking poll conducted exclusively for WCSC-TV Charleston and WSPA-TV Greenville. Huckabee's advantage is largely unchanged from an identical SurveyUSA tracking poll 10 days ago. But the contest is upside down compared to a SurveyUSA poll 5 weeks ago, when Rudolph Giuliani was in 1st place and Mike Huckabee was in 5th place. Today, Giuliani at 12% runs 5th, behind John McCain at 16% and Fred Thompson at 15%. In the Low Country, Romney and Huckabee are effectively tied. Upstate, Huckabee leads Romney by 13. In the Midlands, Huckabee leads Thompson by 11. SC Republican Primary voters say "Immigration" is the issue they want the next President to focus on ahead of all others. Among voters focused on immigration, Huckabee and Romney are effectively tied, a dozen points ahead of Thompson, who finishes 3rd.
