Santa Clara Voters Poised to Approve New Stadium for 49ers: In an election in the city of Santa Clara CA today, 05/25/10, midway through Early Voting, city voters appear ready to approve Measure J, to build a new stadium in Santa Clara for the NFL 49ers, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted exclusively for KPIX-TV in San Francisco.

56% tell SurveyUSA they are certain to vote Yes on Measure J; 40% are certain to vote No. The measure is backed by a majority of men and women ... young and old ... whites, Hispanics and Asians ... Democrats and Republicans.

Among the 37% of voters who tell SurveyUSA they have already voted, the measure passes 2:1. Opposition to ballot measures typically increases as Election Day approaches. In states with a month of Early Voting, it is unclear if the same electoral dynamics apply.

Filtering: SurveyUSA interviewed 700 Santa Clara registered voters 05/22/10 through 05/24/10 using Registration Based Sample (RBS) from Aristotle in Washington DC. Of the registered voters, 577 were determined by SurveyUSA to be likely to vote or to have already voted in the 06/08/10 election. Voting began 05/10/10.
