Analysis: In Primaries for Alabama Governor today, 10/14/05, Republican incumbent Bob Riley faces a strong challenge from Roy Moore, while Democrat Don Siegelman easily defeats Lucy Baxley, according to a SurveyUSA poll of Registered Alabama voters conducted exclusively for WKRG-TV. The Primary is 6/6/06. In the Republican contest, Riley edges Moore 44% to 38% today, among Registered Voters. 18% would vote for someone else or are undecided. Riley is strongest among the oldest and most educated voters. Moore leads by 5 points among pro-life voters, who make up 70% of Alabama Republicans; Riley leads by 35 points among pro-choice voters. 88% of Republicans support the display of the 10 Commandments on government property, and their votes are split. The remaining Republicans vote overwhelmingly for Riley. Riley leads 2:1 in urban areas but Moore leads by 9 points in rural Alabama. In the Democratic contest, Siegelman leads Baxley 54% to 24% today, among Registered Voters. Baxley does best among the oldest and most educated voters.
