Trouble for 11-Term Incumbent Republican Chris Shays in Connecticut's 4th Congressional District: In an election for US House of Representatives from Connecticut's 4th Congressional District today, 10/15/08, twenty days until votes are counted, Democratic challenger Jim Himes edges incumbent Republican Chris Shays 48% to 45%, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted for Roll Call, the newspaper of Capitol Hill. Himes's 3-point advantage is within the survey's margin of sampling error.

Shays runs 8 points stronger than Republican John McCain, but Obama carries the district 59% to 37% in a vote today. Shays has a nominal advantage among white voters, but blacks vote 2:1 Democrat and Hispanics vote 3:2 Democrat. Shays has Plus 11 Favorability. Himes has Plus 17 Favorability. John McCain has Minus 11 Favorability. Barack Obama has Plus 27 Favorability. 20% in the district approve of the job President Bush is doing. 13% approve of the job Congress is doing.

Filtering: 660 registered voters from Connecticut's 4th District were interviewed by SurveyUSA 10/13/08 and 10/14/08, using Registration Based Sample (RBS) from Aristotle of Washington DC. Of them, 602 were determined by SurveyUSA to be likely to vote. Shays is the last Republican congressman in New England. He was first elected during the Reagan administration. In 2006, he received 51% of the vote.
