| San Diego Supports Laws to Limit Ammo Sales and Clip Capacity, Wants Stricter Enforcement of Existing Gun Laws:
San Diego area adults are of mixed minds on the issue of gun control, following last week's shooting in Aurora CO. By 2:1, San Diego adults favor new laws that would limit the amount of ammunition that a person can buy at one time; by 3:2, they support laws to limit the number of bullets that can be loaded into a magazine at any one time. By 5:4, San Diego supports a nationwide ban on semi-automatic weapons. But asked if gun violence would be more reduced by the passing of new laws or by better enforcement of existing laws, San Diego by a 19 point margin favors the stricter enforcement of existing laws. Asked whether it is more important to protect the right of Americans to own guns or to control gun ownership, San Diego adults split. The survey, conducted for KGTV-TV by SurveyUSA, also finds San Diego area residents in agreement with the decision by Penn State University to remove a statue of football coach Joe Paterno from the Penn State Campus. But, residents are divided on sanctions imposed by the NCAA: 45% say the NCAA penalties are "just right," but 28% say the sanctions are too lenient, and 24% say the sanctions are too harsh. |
