Washington State, 8 weeks till votes are counted, Democrat Inslee Tip-Toes 5 Points In Front of Republican McKenna in Tight Governor Fight:
In an election for Governor of Washington state today, 09/10/12, eight weeks till votes are counted, Democrat Jay Inslee remains where he was 6 weeks ago, a whisker ahead of Republican challenger Rob McKenna, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted for KING5 TV in Seattle. Today, it's Inslee 49%, McKenna 44%. 6 weeks ago, Inslee led by 3 points, today he leads by 5 points. Inslee holds 88% of his Democratic base. McKenna holds 85% of his Republican base. Independents break 5:4 for the Republican. Moderates break 7:5 for the Democrat. McKenna leads narrowly among men, but Inslee leads materially among women. The gender gap is 17 points. Eastern Washington goes Republican by 6 points, but Western WA and Greater Seattle go Democrat by 9 points.
* Inslee has a Plus 13 Net Favorability Rating: 41% of likely voters have a favorable opinion of Inslee, 28% have an unfavorable opinion. * 27% of McKenna voters say they cast their vote "with reservations," compared to 21% of Inslee voters. In the election for Attorney General from the state of Washington, Democrat Bob Ferguson has a 9-point advantage over Republican Reagan Dunn. 40% of Independents and 33% of Moderates are undecided in this contest, so movement between now and Election Day is possible. Cell-phone and home-phone respondents included in this research: SurveyUSA interviewed 700 state of Washington adults 09/07/12 through 09/09/12, using blended sample, mixed mode. Of the adults, 607 were registered to vote; of the registered voters, 524 were identified by SurveyUSA as being likely to vote in the November general election. Respondents reachable on a home telephone (71% of likely voters) were interviewed on their home telephones in the recorded voice of a professional announcer. Respondents not reachable on a home telephone (29% of likely voters) were shown a questionnaire on their smartphone, tablet, laptop or other electronic device. The Governor's seat is open. |
