Results of SurveyUSA Election Poll #6913
 
Analysis: In an election for Governor of Virginia held today, 9/19/05, 7 weeks to the vote, Republican Jerry Kilgore's lead over Democrat Tim Kaine is down to 3 points, according to a SurveyUSA poll of 636 likely Virginia voters, conducted for WSLS-TV in Roanoke and WUSA-TV in Washington DC. Kilgore gets 46% of the vote, down 2 points from an identical SurveyUSA poll 6 weeks ago and down 3 points from an identical SurveyUSA poll in June. Compared to August, Kaine is unchanged at 43%. Kaine is up 4 points from June. Independent Russ Potts gets 4% today. 3% would vote for some other candidate. 4% are undecided. Election day is November 8th. Incumbent Democrat Mark Warner is term limited; the Governor's seat is open. Kilgore gets 90% of the Republican vote. Kaine gets 84% of the Democrat vote. Kilgore leads by 8 points among men. Kaine leads by 2 points among women. Kaine support strongest among most educated voters, pro-choice voters.
 
Filtering: 1,200 Virginia adults were interviewed 9/16/05 - 9/18/05. Of them, 1,008 were registered voters. Of them, 636 were judged to be "likely" voters. Crosstabs reflect "likely" voters. Interest in the Virginia contest has increased since SurveyUSA's previous poll. Six weeks ago, interviewing 1,200 Virginia adults produced 568 likely voters. Today, interviewing 1,200 Virginia adults produces 636 likely voters.
