Patrick Tops Healey 3:2, Takes MA State House Back For Democrats: In an election for Governor of Massachusetts today, 10/11/06, Democrat Deval Patrick defeats Republican Kerry Healey 52% to 34%, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted exclusively for WBZ-TV Boston. In an identical SurveyUSA WBZ-TV released 9/22/06, taken immediately after Patrick's impressive win in the 9/19/06 Democratic Primary, Patrick led by 39 points. 3 weeks into the General Election campaign, he now leads by 18. Patrick's lead comes entirely from women voters, who prefer him by 36 points. Men favor Healey by 2 points, a 38-point "gender gap." Patrick gets 79% of Democrat votes. Healey gets 76% of Republican votes. Among Republicans, Healey's lead has increased from 38 points to 66 points. Patrick leads by 5 points among Independents, down from a 24-point lead 3 weeks ago. Since Democrats outnumber Republicans by more than 2:1 among MA likely voters, Healey needs to score heavily among Independents to have a chance. The election is in 20 days, on 11/7/06. Incumbent Republican Mitt Romney is not running for re-election. Healey is currently Lieutenant Governor of MA. Republicans have held the MA Governorship since 1991.
