Results of SurveyUSA Election Poll #16792

Some Tightening in GA GOP Governor Primary: 11 days until votes are counted in the Georgia Primary, a new SurveyUSA poll, conducted exclusively for WXIA-TV and V103-FM in Atlanta and WMAZ-TV in Macon, shows some shifting alliances compared to an identical SurveyUSA poll 3 weeks ago:

* Republican Governor Primary -- Oxendine Still Strong, But Women Moving to Handel, Seniors Moving to Handel and Johnson. Oxendine does not at this hour appear to have tailwind sufficient to carry him across the 50% + 1 vote finish line needed to avoid a runoff against Handel. 10% of voters have already returned a ballot.

* Democratic Governor Primary -- Barnes Remains Above 50%, Though Baker Shows Some Signs of Life.
* Democratic US Senate Primary -- Thurmond Advances to November Race Against Isakson.
* Democratic Lieutenant Governor Primary -- Porter Leads McCracken 2:1, Remains Positioned to Advance.
* Republican School Superintendent Primary: Barge, Woods Neck-And-Neck With More Voters Undecided Than Backing Either.
* Democratic School Superintendent Primary: Martin 15 Points Ahead, Holding His Breath To See If He Can Avoid Runoff Against Westlake.

Filtering: 3,600 Georgia adults were interviewed by SurveyUSA 07/07/10 through 07/08/10. Of them, 3,124 were registered to vote. Of the registered voters, 955 were determined by SurveyUSA to have already voted or to be likely to vote in the July 20 Republican Primary; 554 were determined by SurveyUSA to have already voted or to be likely to vote in the July 20 Democratic Primary. Incumbent Republican Governor Sonny Perdue is term-limited. Early voting began statewide on June 7. If no one candidate receives 50% + 1 vote, top two finishers advance to a runoff 08/10/10.
