Majority in Idaho Want Larry Craig to Leave Guilty Plea in Place, Leave U.S. Senate at Month's End: 54% of Idahoans want United States Senator Larry Craig to leave his guilty plea in place, according to this latest exclusive SurveyUSA poll conducted 09/06/07, the day Craig and his spokespersons sent conflicting signals about the Senator's intentions. 36% of Idahoans say Craig should attempt to withdraw the guilty plea, entered 08/08/07, in response to Craig's arrest for conduct in a Minneapolis airport bathroom. Republicans and Conservatives see the issue differently than do Democrats and Independents. Separately, 52% of Idahoans say Craig should leave the Senate on September 30, the end of this month, as Craig appeared to announce in a press conference 09/01/07. 29% of Idahoans say Craig should serve out the rest of his term, but not run for re-election in 2008. 17% statewide say Craig should serve out his term and run for re-election in 2008.
 
How Much Does Idaho Respect Its Senior Senator? On 09/05/07, SurveyUSA released a nationwide poll that asked Americans from all 50 states how much respect they have for Larry Craig, on a scale of 1 to 10, where 10 means the "highest possible respect," and 1 means "no respect whatsoever." Craig scored a 3.0 in that survey, which placed Craig 39th out of 42 newsmakers, ahead of Michael Vick, who scored 2.6, and behind Howard Stern, who scored 3.3. SurveyUSA put the identical question to just Gem State adults on 09/06/07, and Craig scored a 4.2, materially higher than Craig scored nationwide. Craig gets a 5.2 score from Idaho Republicans (compared to a 3.3 score from Republicans nationwide), a 2.8 score from Idaho Democrats (compared to 2.7 nationwide), and a 3.8 score from Idaho Independents (compared to 2.8 nationwide).
 
Do Republicans Hold the Senate Seat if Craig Does Not Run For Re-Election? SurveyUSA will release data on Saturday, 09/08/07, on how Idaho Democrat Larry LaRocco fares against 6 different Republicans who may run for Craig's seat, assuming Craig does in fact vacate.
