Results of SurveyUSA Election Poll #6761
Analysis: In a Democratic Primary in King County today, 18 days before the 9/20/05 vote, incumbent County Executive Ron Sims easily beats challengers Karen Rispoli and Michael Nelson, according to a SurveyUSA poll of 351 likely Democratic Primary voters, conducted exclusively for KING-TV. Sims gets 62% of the vote, to 17% for Rispoli and 8% for Nelson. Among a larger group of 1,642 registered voters (which includes Republicans and Independents, and those Democrats who are not likely to vote in the Primary), Sims narrowly beats Republican David Irons, 49% to 41%, in a hypothetical General Election head-to-head matchup. 35% of King County registered voters approve of the job Sims is doing as King County Executive. 41% disapprove. 24% are not sure.
Pollster Caveat: Sims's support is stronger among those who were not likely to vote in the Primary, weaker among the more likely voters. Therefore, the General Election poll of all Registered Voters may overestimate Sims's vote compared with a poll of the most likely voters. Such a poll, of likely voters in the November general election, will be possible after the 9/20/05 primary.
Filtering: 2,000 King County adults were interviewed 8/30/05 - 9/1/05. Of them, 1,642 were registered voters. Of them, 734 were judged to be "likely voters". Of them, 351 chose a Democratic ballot. Results for Question 1 are for "likely voters" who chose a Democratic ballot. Results for Questions 2 and 3 are for all 1,642 sampled King County registered voters.
