| Bennet and Buck Battle to a Draw, But Democrat May Have More Early Votes in the Bank; Will Remaining Ballots Break for GOP? In the battle for US Senator from Colorado, Democrat Michael Bennet has an apparent advantage among voters who say they have already returned a ballot. But Republican Ken Buck is narrowly ahead among the larger group that promises to return a ballot but has not yet done so. When all voters are combined, it's Bennet 47%, Buck 47%, nine days till votes are counted. Democrats and Republicans cancel each other out in this contest. The next Senator will be elected by Colorado's Independent voters. 3 weeks ago, Independents broke 5:3 for Buck. Today, Independents are split, arguably the most significant finding in the research. Women are moving to Bennet. Greater Denver is moving to Bennet. Colorado Springs is moving to Buck. |
| Tancredo Siphons Support from Maes, but Not Enough to Top Hickenlooper, Who Approaches a Majority in a 3-Man Race for Governor: Independent Tom Tancredo gets 2 of 3 of Republican votes and 4 of 10 Independent votes but that does not appear to be enough to defeat Democrat John Hickenlooper, who gets 9 of 10 Democrat votes in the 3-man race for Colorado Governor. Among those who have already returned a ballot, Hickenlooper is atop Tancredo by 14 points. Among those who have not yet voted but who promise to, Hickenlooper is up by 7 points. Combined, the Democrat leads Tancredo and Republican Dan Maes 49% to 39% to 9%. Hickenlooper has a 25-point advantage among women, which Tancredo's nominal 3-point advantage among men does not offset. Hickenlooper and Tancredo are tied among voters age 50+. What advantage Hickenlooper has comes from voters under age 49. |
|
* For State Treasurer, incumbent Democrat Cary Kennedy has an advantage among voters who have returned a ballot, and Republican challenger Walker Stapleton leads among voters who promise to vote but have not yet done so. When the two groups are combined, the contest is too close to call. * For Attorney General, incumbent Republican John Suthers is narrowly ahead among voters who have returned a ballot but more comfortably positioned for re-election when all voters are examined. All of Suthers' advantage comes from men. * For Secretary of State, Republican Scott Gessler and Democrat Bernie Buescher are tied among those who have already voted, with a slight edge to the Republican among those who have not yet returned a ballot. * Amendments 60, 61, 62, 63 and Proposition 101 all trail badly among voters who have already returned a ballot, and there is little evidence that those who have not yet returned a ballot will vote differently. |
| * Filtering: 800 adults with home telephones were interviewed by SurveyUSA 10/19/10 through 10/21/10. Of them, 702 were registered to vote. Of them, 621 were determined by SurveyUSA to have already returned a ballot, or to be likely to do so on or before Election Day 11/02/10. Early voting began 10/18/10. |
