| KS Senate: Incumbent Roberts Heads Toward Re-Election: In an election for United States Senator from Kansas today, 09/23/08, six weeks from the vote, incumbent Republican Pat Roberts defeats Democrat Jim Slattery 55% to 35%, according to this SurveyUSA poll conducted exclusively for KWCH-TV Wichita and KCTV-TV Kansas City. Compared to an identical SurveyUSA poll released one month ago, Roberts is down 3 points; Slattery is up 4.
Most shifts seen here in support are small. Of note: among voters age 50+, Roberts had led by 26, now leads by 13. Slattery one month ago took 64% of Democratic votes; today, he takes 74%. Roberts, meantime, takes 83% of Republican votes; independents favor Roberts 49% to 31%, and split 14% of their vote between two other candidates, Libertarian Randall Hodgkinson and Reform Party candidate Joseph Martin. Regionally, Roberts leads 2:1 in Western Kansas and Southeastern Kansas. In Northeastern Kansas, Roberts today leads by 5 points, down from 15 points one month ago. |
