| Of Americans Paying Attention to Alberto Gonzales, 58% Have 'No Confidence'; 70% Say Congress Should Investigate: 46% of Americans are following news stories about U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales. Those following the Gonzales story were included in this 50-state poll by SurveyUSA. 58% have "No Confidence" in Gonzales. 43%, including a majority of Democrats, Independents, Moderates and Liberals, say Gonzales is "Fundamentally Dishonest." 70% say it is right for Congress to investigate Gonzales. Examining the results by political party: Republicans are 3 times more likely than Democrats to have Confidence in Gonzales; Republicans are 3 times more likely than Democrats to say Gonzales is fundamentally honest; Republicans are 4 times more likely than Democrats to say it is "wrong" for Congress to investigate Gonzales. |
| Filtering: 2,200 adults from all 50 United States were interviewed by SurveyUSA 7/30/07. Of them, 46% were following news stories about the Attorney General and were allowed to respond to the substantive questions of this survey. Interviews for this survey were completed before a resolution by Democratic Congressman Jay Inslee, from Washington's 1st Congressional District, calling for the Judiciary to look into the impeachment of Gonzales, had been introduced onto the floor of the House of Representatives. |
