| Los Angeles Supports Laws to Limit Ammo Sales and Clip Capacity, Wants Stricter Enforcement of Existing Gun Laws:
Los Angeles area adults are of mixed minds on the issue of gun control, following last week's shooting in Aurora CO. By 2:1, Los Angeles adults favor new laws that would limit the amount of ammunition that a person can buy at one time and limit the number of bullets that can be loaded into a magazine at any one time. By 5:4, LA supports a nationwide ban on semi-automatic weapons. But asked if gun violence would be more reduced by the passing of new laws or by better enforcement of existing laws, LA by 5:4 favors the stricter enforcement of existing laws. Asked whether it is more important to protect the right of Americans to own guns or to control gun ownership, 54% say it is more important to control gun ownership; 39% say it is more important to protect the right of Americans to own guns. The survey, conducted for KABC-TV by SurveyUSA, also finds LA area residents in agreement with the decision by Penn State University to remove a statue of football coach Joe Paterno from the Penn State Campus. But, residents are divided on sanctions imposed by the NCAA: 47% say the NCAA penalties are "just right," but 25% say the sanctions are too lenient, and 24% say the sanctions are too harsh. |
