What is Fallout in Utah from Mitt Romney Interview on 60 Minutes? SurveyUSA polled in Utah and in four early primary states today Monday 5/14/07 to measure reaction to Republican Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney's sit down with 60 Minutes' Mike Wallace last night Sunday 5/13/07. Separate statewide surveys were conducted in Utah, Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Florida. How to Interpret these Results? A majority who watch any interview often have made-up their mind about the topic in advance. In this case, 26% of Utah viewers said they had not planned to vote for Romney before the interview, and after watching 60 Minutes, they still do not plan to vote for Romney. 50% of Utah viewers said they had planned to vote for Romney, and after watching 60 Minutes, they still plan to vote for Romney. Of those in Utah who changed their mind as a result of the 60 Minutes interview: 13% said they had not planned to vote for Romney before the interview, but now they do plan to vote for Romney. 4% in Utah said they had planned to vote for Romney before the interview, but no longer. Doing the math: Romney appears to have helped himself, converting 9 percentage points more Utah viewers to his cause than the number of Utah viewers he alienated. 65% of 60 Minutes viewers in Utah were Mormon. Romney is Mormon. Of Mormons, 66% say they had planned to vote for Romney and still intend to. Just 12% of Mormon viewers say they did not plan to vote for Romney, and still intend not to.
 
Filtering: 1,500 state of Utah adults were interviewed. Of them, 254 watched 60 Minutes last night. Questions about Romney were asked only of those who watched 60 Minutes interview. Results of the other statewide SurveyUSA post 60-Minutes polls are posted here.
 
Caution: The people who watch a TV interview may or may not be representative of the entire adult population, and should not be expected to mirror the population of likely voters in any particular primary.
