McCain Shows Strength in Oregon
Al Gore won Oregon in 2000 by 6,765 votes. With that one asterisk noted, Oregon has been reliably “blue” since 1988, when it was one of the nine states that voted for Michael Dukakis. Before 1988, however, Oregon was reliably red, voting for Republicans in every election from 1948 through 1984, with the sole exception of 1964.
SurveyUSA’s latest Oregon tracking poll suggests John McCain could be the candidate who turns Oregon red again.

Tracking graphs, after the jump, show McCain’s lead over Clinton doubling in each of the past three months — from 2 points to 4 points to 8 points. Obama and McCain, during that same time period, have traded the lead, which has been no more than one or two points in either direction.
