South Carolina Senators Should Stay In Senate, Say Most in State
Yesterday, we looked at approval ratings for South Carolina governor Mark Sanford (Plus 28), and discussed poll results showing a 49/40 split on whether or not he’d be a good running mate for Arizona Senator John McCain, with 49% saying he would not
Today, a peek at approval ratings and the vice presidential question for both of South Carolina’s United States Senators, Lindsey Graham and Jim DeMint.
Both have similar approval ratings — Plus 11 and Plus 12, respectively — but South Carolina’s voters don’t appear to think either would pair well with John McCain on the Republican ticket this fall. Just 30% say Graham would make a good running mate for John McCain, with 55% saying he would not. When it comes to DeMint, the survey results are even worse for any Vice Presidential ambitions he may have — only 22% say he’d be a good running mate for McCain and 59% say he would not. Fully crosstabbed results on the VP question for both Senators and the Governor are right here; looking at the crosstabs shows that Republicans are twice as likely to say Sanford would make a good running mate as they are to say either of the Senators would.
