Incumbent Harkin Well Ahead In Bid For Fifth Term In U.S. Senate

In an election for United States Senator from Iowa today, 46 days from the vote, incumbent Democrat Tom Harkin defeats Republican Chris Reed by 23 points, 60% to 37%, according to this SurveyUSA poll conducted exclusively for WHO-TV Des Moines and KAAL-TV Mason City.
Harkin, first elected in 1985, leads by double digits among both men and women, among both young and old voters, and in all regions of the state. Reed, a businessman and US Navy veteran, gets 8 in 10 Republican votes; Harkin gets 9 in 10 Democratic votes; Independents favor Harkin by a 2:1 margin.
