NJ Senator Lautenberg Re-Elected To Fifth Term
In an election for United States Senator from New Jersey today, 36 days from the election, incumbent Democrat Frank Lautenberg defeats Republican Dick Zimmer 51% to 38%, according to this latest SurveyUSA poll conducted for WABC-TV New York and WCAU-TV Philadelphia.
Lautenberg, who served in the Senate from 1982 through 2000 and who won election again in 2002, leads by 7 points among men and by 19 points among women. 17% of Republicans cross over to vote for Lautenberg; 12% of Democrats cross over to vote for Zimmer, a former US House member. Independents favor Lautenberg by 10 points.
Lautenberg leads by double digits in North and South Jersey; Zimmer holds a nominal 2-point lead in Central Jersey.
