State of Washington: Gregoire and Rossi Debate to a Draw
State of Washington adults who watched the back-to-back debates last night saw Barack Obama as a clear winner over John McCain, but were split on whether Republican Dino Rossi or Democrat Christine Gregoire did better in the Gubernatorial debate, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted for KING-TV in Seattle. 1,600 state of Washington adults were interviewed. Of them, 1,082 watched the presidential debate, which was broadcast on all TV networks and on cable news channels, but just 277 watched the Governor debate, which was broadcast only on KING-TV, Northwest Cable News, and public radio stations statewide. Republicans by 6:1 say Rossi won. Democrats by 5:1 say Gregoire won. Independents split, with approximately 1/3 saying that Ross won, 1/3 saying that Gregoire won, and 1/3 saying there was no clear winner. A slightly larger group ended the debate with a more favorable impression of Rossi than ended the debate with a more favorable impression of Gregoire, who is the sitting governor. Obama by 5:3 was seen as the winner of the Presidential debate.
