In an election for Seattle Mayor,  two weeks until votes are counted, businessman Joe Mallahan re-captures the lead he had 5 weeks ago over community organizer Mike McGinn. Today, it’s 43% Mallahan, 36% McGinn, according to this latest exclusive KING-TV tracking poll conducted by SurveyUSA. One in five voters are undecided, although voting has already begun.

Compared to an identical SurveyUSA poll released three weeks ago, Mallahan is up 5 points; McGinn is down 2.

Among Democrats, Mallahan had led by 3 when polling began five weeks ago; three weeks ago Mallahan trailed by 7.Today, Mallahan is again on top among Seattle Democrats, by a 2 point margin, approximately back to where he began.
Among Republicans, less volatility: Mallahan led by 21 points in SurveyUSA’s first poll, released 9/15 and has led by 13 points in the two polls since.
Among independents, Mallahan has led by 8 points, by 11 points, and again by 11 points today.
The race has see-sawed among both men and women. Among men Mallahan had a 3-point edge in mid-September, trailed by 1 in the 9/30 release, and today leads McGinn by 7 points.
Among women, Mallahan had led by 8, then led by 1, now leads by 6.

McGinn today has the advantage among the youngest voters, among Asian Americans, and among liberals.

Ballots for the election became available on October 14. Among the 19% who say they have already voted, Mallahan leads by 4 points. Among those who are likely to vote, Mallahan leads by 7.
