In Kansas GOP Primaries, Brownback, Moran Advance to November Ballot; In Democratic Primary, Anyone’s Game

In Republican Primaries in Kansas today, 1 month until votes are counted, Jerry Moran 5:3 defeats Todd Tiahrt in the Republican US Senate Primary, and Sam Brownback and running mate Jeff Colyer 4:1 defeat the ticket of Joan Heffington and Mark Holick in the Republican primary for Governor, according to this latest SurveyUSA’s pre-primary tracking poll conducted exclusively for KWCH-TV Wichita and KCTV-TV Kansas City. Compared to an identical SurveyUSA poll released 5 weeks ago, Moran is up flat, Tiahrt is up nominally. In 9 SurveyUSA tracking polls, Moran has never trailed; Tiahrt has never polled above 38%.

In Kansas Democratic Primary for US Senate, Anyone’s Game: 2 weeks before voting begins, more Democratic primary voters are undecided than have settled on any 1 of the 5 candidates vying for the Democratic nomination for US Senate. Today, college professor Lisa Johnston gets 24%; retired businessman Charles Schollenberger gets 16%; State Senator David Haley and retiree Bob Conroy each get 11%. Johnston leads Schollenberger 2:1 among women; the two tie among men. But: with 35% of likely voters undecided, the poll results offer limited guidance.
