Initiative 912 Now Trailing; Initiative 900 Too-Close-To-Call; 901 Passes: In an election today, 11/1/05, 1 week to the 11/8/05 vote, state of Washington voters narrowly defeat Initiative 912, decisively approve Initiative 901, and split on Initiative 900, according to a SurveyUSA poll of 740 likely state of Washington voters, conducted exclusively for KING-TV. Initiative 912, repealing recently enacted fuel tax increases, fails today with 44% "Yes" to 50% "No". In an identical SurveyUSA KING-TV poll 10/11/05, the measure passed by 8 points. Support has dropped 14 points in 21 days. Initiative 901, banning smoking in public vehicles and buildings and places of employment, passes by 29 points today. 3 weeks ago, it passed by 33 points. Initiative 900, directing the state auditor to conduct performance audits of state and local governments, is effectively tied today: 48% "Yes" and 46% "No". 3 weeks ago Initiative 900 trailed by 3 points; today it leads by 2 points, a 5-point increase in support. Republicans favor Initiative 912, Democrats and Independents oppose it. Support for Proposition 912 has decreased most strongly among urban voters and in Eastern Washington. Initiative 901 gets strong support from all groups. Interest in ballot measures intensifies as the election approaches and ad dollars are spent to influence voters. These numbers may yet fluctuate.

Filtering: 1,200 Washington State adults were interviewed 10/29/05 - 10/31/05. Of them, 1,000 were registered voters. Of them, 735 were judged to be "likely" voters on Initiative 912. 740 were judged to be "likely" voters on Initiative 901. 729 were judged to be "likely" voters on Initiative 900. Crosstabs reflect "likely" voters.
