Democrat Take-Away In Colorado State House: In an election for Governor of Colorado today, 8/17/06, Democrat Bill Ritter defeats Republican Bob Beauprez 50% to 40%, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted exclusively for KUSA-TV Denver. The election is in 12 weeks, on 11/7/06. Ritter leads by 23 points among women. Beauprez leads by 4 points among men, a 27-point "gender gap." Ritter gets 92% of Democrat votes. Beauprez gets 81% of Republican votes. Independents favor Ritter 5:2. Ritter leads 5:3 in Metro Denver. Beauprez leads 5:3 in the Colorado Springs area. Those who approve of President Bush's performance support Beauprez 8:1. Those who disapprove of Bush support Ritter 7:1. 40% of likely voters in Colorado approve of Bush. Incumbent Republican Governor Bill Owens is term-limited. Should Ritter win, the State House will switch from Republican to Democrat.

Filtering: 1,200 Colorado adults were interviewed 8/14/06 - 8/16/06. Of them, 1,013 were registered to vote. Of them, 605 were judged to be "likely voters." Crosstabs reflect Likely Voters.
